Engineering Faculty Research Excellence Awards Ceremony 2024
The Faculty Research Excellence Award Ceremony 2024 was successfully held on 1st July 2026 at the Faculty Seminar Room of the Faculty of Engineering.
The event was graced by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Ranjith Pallegama, who attended as the Chief Guest. During the ceremony, awards and certificates of commendation were presented to 11 academic staff members who excelled in research during the evaluation period of 2022–2023.

2022 Faculty Research Awards
Engineering Faculty Research Excellence Awards Ceremony
The awarding ceremony of the Faculty Research Excellence Awards for the years 2018, 2020, and 2022 of the Faculty of Engineering was held on 11th November 2022 at the EOE Pereira Theatre of the Faculty of Engineering.
The ceremony was graced by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Terrance Madhujith, as the Chief Guest. Awards and certificates of commendation were presented to 17 academic staff members who demonstrated excellence in research during the prescribed time periods.
Presidential Awards for Scientific Research
In a striking testament to academic brilliance, the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Peradeniya has set a benchmark of excellence in the prestigious Presidential Awards for Scientific Research 2023. The award was given to each article published in the top 100 journals with the highest SCImago Journal Rankings (SJR). The university has outshone others, securing more than 20% (46 out of 217) of the total awards for publications from 2019/2020, where Engineering is one of the faculties at the centre steering it.
Collaboration Across Borders: More than 45% of overseas authors
These 46 papers, a fusion of intellect and innovation, have been co-authored by 156 Sri Lankan and 121 overseas authors, showcasing a global collaborative spirit. This synergy of local and international minds reflects Peradeniya’s commitment to global academic partnerships.
Impact Measured by Citations: More than 1,500 citations
The impact of these publications is not confined to accolades but is echoed in their global scientific influence. These papers have already garnered an impressive 1,513 citations, averaging over 30 per paper. This remarkable citation count, coupled with an h-index of 24 since 2019/20, speaks volumes about the quality and relevance of the research produced.
Engineering – A Hub of Innovation: Contributing Almost one-third of the papers
The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Peradeniya stands tall in innovation, contributing almost one-third of these award-winning publications (15 out of 46). These 15 engineering marvels were brought to life by 81 authors, including 40 from Peradeniya and 13 industrious undergraduate students. This highlights the Faculty’s sustained emphasis on undergraduate research, a practice not commonly seen elsewhere
